15 Years of Improv Utopia: A Place We Call Home.
Fifteen years ago, Improv Utopia began as a dream — a simple idea that improv, when done with heart and community, could change lives. Today, that dream has blossomed into a sanctuary for performers, teachers, and students from across the globe. As we celebrate our 15th year, I want to take a moment to reflect on the journey, the impact, and the incredible people who make this place what it is.
Improv Utopia isn’t just a camp. It’s a family. A home away from home where artists come to grow, connect, and recharge. Over the past decade and a half, we’ve welcomed thousands of campers — from wide-eyed beginners to seasoned professionals — all eager to share in the joy of collaboration and discovery. The spirit they bring, the vulnerability they share, and the laughter they create is the lifeblood of what we do.
We’ve always believed that when we lift each other up, the whole community rises. That belief has guided us to donate tens of thousands of dollars to arts-related charities. We've helped improv theaters pay their rent, cover bills, and weather some of the hardest times imaginable. When the world shut down, we found ways to keep the lights on for the places and people that keep improv alive.
But our support doesn’t stop at financial aid. Through workshops, mentorship, and leadership training, Improv Utopia has helped theaters around the world not only survive but thrive. We've brought teachers and students together to share knowledge, build networks, and create a more inclusive and sustainable future for improv everywhere.
None of this would be possible without the incredible team that stands beside me. To my staff, counselors, admins and teachers — thank you for your tireless commitment, your compassion, and your belief in this mission. You’ve built something beautiful.
And to our campers — you are the heart of Improv Utopia. Your courage, generosity, and openness create the sanctuary that so many of us need. You've built lifelong friendships, launched new ideas, healed, and laughed until it hurt. You’ve reminded us, year after year, why this work matters.
Fifteen years in, the mission hasn’t changed, its only expanded. We are here to build each other up, to give back more than we take, and to keep creating spaces where the transformative power of improv can thrive.
Thank you for being part of this journey. Here's to the next 15 years — and the magic we’ll make together.
